![]() The session will have a brief theoretical component, followed by an examination of several representative rewriting strategies and their equivalent in Dati. Agostino Dati wrote in the 15th century a style manual in which he often demonstrates word level, phrase level, and clause level syntax options in a method that closely resembles more language acquisition rewriting strategies. This is not prose composition: this is twice as much fun with half the pain! Mirabile dictu! "Rewriting" (changing one or more language elements to express the same idea) can be a powerful language use tool in the Latin classroom, especially for those less certain about incorporating oral pedagogies. These techniques can be added to any Latin curriculum, will enhance any textbook or Latin literary text, and are suited to any teaching style, in classrooms from diverse environments with students at all levels of Latin experience. Workshop participants will sample several communicative teaching and learning techniques that they can use in their classrooms right away. We start out with familiar classroom tasks, with an active, communicative twist.
